Hinkle pitches Potomac State past Hawks

Potomac State advances to Region XX championship game

Eric Hinkle

Eric Hinkle allowed just four hits in a complete game effort at the Region XX Tournament.

Wye Mills, MD- Eric Hinkle scattered four hits in a complete game effort as the Potomac State Catamounts defeated Hagerstown Community College 11-2 in the winners bracket of the Region XX Division 1 Baseball Tournament.

Other than a two-run home run by HCCýs Charles Johnson in the second inning, Hinkle surrendered just three singles as the sophomore was efficient for the complete game win.  The effort raises his record to 8-1.

"Eric was really on today," said Head Coach Doug Little.  "He was in command from the first inning on.  He was really sharp."

Potomac State was just as sharp on the offensive side as they banged out seventeen hits and scored in each of the first four innings.

Kurtis Voytell led the way with two doubles and a single with three runs batted in.  Dominick Hayes had two doubles and a single with one driven in, while Josh Birthisel had a double and two singles and drove in two runs.

Jason Lombard drove in three runs with a two run triple and a sacrifice fly.

Potomac State will face Hagerstown again tomorrow as HCC defeated Chesapeake Community College in the loser's bracket 7-1.  Hagerstown will now need to defeat Potomac State twice on Sunday to retain their Region XX crown.  Game time is 11 a.m.
