Administrative Positions

Campus Provost  (Campus Chief Executive Officer): West Virginia University is accepting nominations and applications for the Campus Provost for Potomac State College of West Virginia University who serves as the chief executive officer of the College. The position reports to the President of West Virginia University through the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty Positions

Potomac State College, a Division of West Virginia University located in Keyser, West Virginia, seeks qualified candidates committed to excellence in teaching and service at the undergraduate level in the following areas:  

Equine Studies: Teaching Instructor, three year renewable appointment, non-tenure track. A Masters in Animal Science or a closely related field is required.   Teaching responsibilities include equine science and animal production. Experience relative to management of tack and horse related equipment, stable sanitation and safety, and management of riding arena and stable workers is required. (Job 205)

Mathematics: Instructor or Assistant Professor, tenure track. A minimum of a Master's degree is required. Teaching responsibilities include Developmental Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. Qualified applicants should have experience teaching secondary mathematics or developmental college mathematics. (Job 210)  

Physical Education: Instructor or Assistant Professor, tenure track. A minimum of a Master’s degree in physical education or a closely related field is required.    Teaching responsibilities include lower-division courses in physical education, physical education teaching and athletic coaching education, sport and exercise psychology, and sport management. All positions are full-time, nine month, with benefits, with a starting date of August 16, 2012. Previous teaching experience is required.

Adjunct Faculty Positions  

-Potomac State College of West Virginia University is seeking part-time instructors to teach introductory history and political science courses. A master’s degree in an appropriate field is required.

-Potomac State College of WVU is accepting applications for the position of Traffic Enforcement Officer. This is a 10 month full time position with benefits, a starting salary of $10.82 per hour, and a start date of Aug. 15 2012.

A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required. Computer skills are a must. The candidate must successfully pass a background investigation and must successfully complete certification in first aid and CPR.

Duties and responsibilities include…Enforcement of parking regulations… Assist Campus Police Officers with law enforcement activities and duties…Parking offender identification…Parking records data, statistics and the dissemination of parking fines onto student accounts for billing…Assist University Police in traffic and safety related matters.

The successful candidate must be physically capable to perform the duties of the position.

-Potomac State College is accepting applications for a Food Service Assistant II, #245. This is a 37.5/hr week position, 10 months with benefits, salary $8.49/hr.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, ability to read & write in English and perform math calculations; ability to follow oral & written instructions; able to operate food service equipment; ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs and to maintain proper work attendance and punctuality standards.  Need to get Food Handler's permit within 30 days of hire.

Duties include preparing food items as directed by customer demands; assigns tasks and instructs others employees on proper work methods and procedures to use; utilize HACCP procedures and ensure sanitary conditions are maintained at all times; supports operation of POS equipment, balance cash drawer and complete shift reports.

Summer Component Tutor Counselor—Six-Week Summer Residential Position with the Potomac State College Upward Bound Program, a federally funded, educational-opportunity program designed to provide high school students with the academic skills and motivation needed to succeed in college.

Responsibilities include provision of daily tutorial assistance for participants during evening or afternoon study halls; provision of academic, personal, and career assistance to participants as needed; facilitating special interest activities; assisting resident directors with the administration of the residence hall; assisting in planning, implementing, and supervision of recreational activities, participating in these activities with students and other staff members; acting as a chaperone on field trips, during service projects, and other off-campus activities; attending and contributing to staff meetings and training seminars; maintaining records of all student contact; and completion of other duties as assigned.
 

Staff Training dates: June 4-8, 2012
Program start date: Sunday, June 10, 2012
 

This is a total of six weeks, full-time, residential position, Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. Off-duty hours vary in accordance with the schedule. Staff may leave campus when off-duty.
 

Minimum Qualifications: At time of applying, Tutor Counselors must have achieved sophomore standing at an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. A background similar to that of the Upward Bound student population is desired. 
Salary: $2,100 plus room and board.

Summer Component Female Residence Hall Director—Summer Residential Position with the Potomac State College Upward Bound Program, a federally-funded educational-opportunity program designed to provide high school students with the academic skills and motivation needed to succeed in college. 

Responsibilities include supervision of student participants in the residence hall and during on and off campus activities; planning, implementing, supervising, and participating in recreational activities; opening and closing the residence hall; providing participants with academic, personal, and career assistance; maintaining records for the Summer Food Service Program; supervising program dormitory staff; coordinating dorm staff duty schedule; and maintaining participant and program records. 

Staff training dates: Monday, June 4, 2012 to Friday, June 8, 2012.

Program start date: Sunday, June 10, 2012. Program ending date: Thursday, July 19, 2012.

Including staff training, this is a six week, full-time, residential position, Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. Off-duty hours vary in accordance with the schedule. Final trip for staff and eligible student participants will be July 16-19, 2012. 

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree is required. Supervisory experience particularly that of Resident Advisor or Tutor Counselor is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. A background similar to that of the Upward Bound student population is desired. 

Salary: $3,100 plus room and board.

Founded in 1901, Potomac State College is a predominantly two-year college offering eight Associate in Arts degrees and seven Associate in Applied Science degrees. A Bachelor of Applied Science degree is also offered, with emphases in Business Management and Criminal Justice.
