Faculty Positions

Potomac State College, a Division of West Virginia University located in Keyser, West Virginia, seeks qualified candidates committed to excellence in teaching and service at the undergraduate level in the following areas:

-Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor in Journalism: This position is full-time visiting faculty, nine month, with benefits, with a starting date of August 16, 2015. A minimum of a master’s degree in journalism or communications (journalism emphasis) is required. Responsibilities include teaching courses in media and society, media writing, reporting, editing, and serving as faculty adviser to a long-standing college newspaper and its publication three times each semester. Teaching responsibilities also include public speaking or English composition. Excellence in previous college teaching experience is valued. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OS is helpful. Media online experience is valued. Academic advising in journalism and communications is expected. (Job #JOURN2015).


- Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor in Mathematics: This position is full-time visiting faculty, nine month, with benefits, with a starting date of August 16, 2015. A minimum of a master’s degree in mathematics is required. Teaching responsibilities include college algebra, trigonometry, and calculus through elementary differential equations. (Developmental courses may be included in teaching load.) (Job #MATH2015).

-Instructor or assistant professor faculty position in Business Management, this is a full-time, 9 month tenure-track with a start date of January 1, 2016. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory, intermediate, and advanced business management based undergraduate courses leading to associate and baccalaureate degrees in Business Management. The successful hire will serve as coordinator of the programs. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise to lead the faculty in the development of one or more unique program areas, such as, entrepreneurship, student-based business incubation, international business administration, or other arena to enhance enrollment.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or DBA in business or closely related field – preferred
  • An MBA from a regionally accredited college or university – considered
  • Preferential consideration will be given to candidates who have prior college-level teaching experience, experience in program leadership and accreditation, and business related work experience.

Expectations:

  • A record of commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and academic advising at the undergraduate level.
  • A commitment to professional growth and development in the “scholarship of teaching” (e.g. effective instructional methodologies that actively engage students in the learning process).
  • A basic understanding and commitment to data-driven teaching and continuous improvement decisions based on course and program-level assessment.
  • Experience with technology in the classroom and a commitment to online (hybrid and full-course) instruction and program development.
  • A commitment to work with faculty and the administration to earn a national-level business-related program accreditation.
  • A commitment to teach at all Potomac State College off-campus locations.

Adjunct Faculty Positions 

Potomac State College is currently seeking adjuncts for Fall 2015 and future semesters in the following disciplines:

Adjunct Instructors at PSC are expected to teach undergraduate courses and engage in teaching practices with an acute focus on documenting student learning. A master’s degree in the appropriate field is required or relevant certification for some disciplines. Classified Positions  

- MATHEMATICS TUTOR. Potomac State College of WVU is accepting applications for a Mathematics Tutor to work in the Academic Success Center. This position is full-time, 37.5 hours/week, 9 months, benefits eligible with a salary of $14.75/hour. Duties include tutoring students to improve mathematical skills, providing other services offered by the Academic Success Center, and teaching a one-credit orientation course annually. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or closely related subject and six months experience as a tutor or teacher in higher education.

-HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER. Potomac State College, an NJCAA member, invites applications for the position of Head Athletic Trainer.  This is a full-time, non-tenure track renewable annual appointment with full benefits package.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of athletic training, including but not limited to:  evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; attend practices, home games, and some away contests; establish training room hours for treatment and rehab; complete injury report forms for all injuries; insurance billing; physician referral; supervise student athletic trainers; game manager duties when Athletic Director is not present; work summer camps as needed; and other duties as assigned by the AD.  Evening and weekend hours as well as minimal travel are required.

Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from an accredited university required, master’s degree preferred.  BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, current CPR certification required.  Eligible for WV ATC licensure.  Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills required.  Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in athletic training required at the college, professional sport, or high school level.

- CAMPUS CONNECTIONS POSITION FOR NEW VISTA COLLABORATIVE.  The WVU Center for Service and Learning (CS&L) is seeking a candidate to fill the Campus Connections (Potomac State) POD in our new VISTA Collaborative! 
 
This is a perfect opportunity for a current or graduating student to make connections in the community, and help pay for school. The VISTA Collaborative aims to leverage resources at West Virginia University to build capacity and develop programs to improve outcomes in the community.  The VISTA collaborative member will build the CS&L's capacity by developing and implementing service-learning partnerships for Potomac State and WV-Tech faculty, students and community partners in Northern West Virginia.
 
Applications on the MyAmeriCorps  website are due July 1st, in order to attend pre-service orientation (PSO) in Atlanta (August 17-20th). The VISTA would then start their service immediately following PSO.
 
AmeriCorps VISTA is a full-time, 40 hours per week commitment.
