International Student Information
Potomac State College is a two-year division of West Virginia University and is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.
In order for an I-20 to be processed and forwarded to a prospective international student, the following credentials must be received as early as possible before the start of the semester in which you plan to attend:
Original or certified copies of an official academic record in original language of issue;
Original or certified copies of all certificates or diplomas in original language of issue;
Official English translations of academic record and certificates/diplomas;
Financial statement reflecting the ability of the student to cover tuition, fees, room, board, books and supplies for one year at the College. In all cases, original or certified copies of financial/sponsorship documents must be submitted before the I-20 can be issued;
All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. Potomac State College uses the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) as the measure of English language proficiency. A score of 79 on the internet-based TOEFL, 213 on the computer-based TOEFL, or 550 on the paper-based TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS is the minimum requirement.
- Copy of current passport or visa.
Once these documents have been received and admission granted, an I-20 will be forwarded to you. Documents received by Potomac State become the property of the College and cannot be returned to the applicant. It is therefore recommended that students who receive only one original copy of credentials submit certified copies with the application.
In addition, the following documents will be required before enrolling at Potomac State College:
1. ACT and SAT Scores Information- ACT and SAT scores are not required, but you are encouraged to submit the scores for one or both tests. The ACT and/or SAT scores are used to determine scholarship awards and for placement in math and English classes.
