Financial Aid

We believe that success starts here. At Potomac State College of WVU.

We understand that paying for college remains one of the top concerns for students. For many, the vast amount of information concerning financial aid can be overwhelming. The staff of the Office of Enrollment Services at Potomac State College is committed to helping you through this process, so that you may receive the appropriate financial assistance to complete your education.

Getting Started

Timeliness is one of the most important factors in receiving the maximum amount of financial aid.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 if at all possible for maximum consideration for federal and state aid. If you cannot meet this submission date you can still apply at anytime during the academic year in which you are enrolled.

The Potomac State school code to use on the FAFSA is 003829 or 003827 (WVU).

If you are a West Virginia resident and plan to attend college as a full-time student, you should complete the PROMISE Scholarship Application to be considered for the PROMISE scholarship.

Potomac State offers many scholarships for students, including WVU-integrated scholarships which continue when you change campuses to Morgantown. Make sure you are admitted and provide your ACT or SAT scores by February 15 for maximum consideration for scholarships.

Staying on Track after Admission

Once you are admitted to Potomac State and have completed your FAFSA, you will be packaged for financial aid.

Check your MIX account frequently to see if you have received important financial aid notifications. You must accept or decline your financial aid package on your MIX account within 30 days of receipt of the information. You may always accept only the portion of aid which you wish to receive.

Loans are an important part of financial aid packages and require several steps to complete the process. Students must complete a Master Promissory Note as well as Entrance Counseling to receive student loans.

The Federal Work-study program provides campus jobs for students who qualify.

Keeping up for Current Students

Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress to continue to receive federal financial aid.

Financial aid is available for the summer term; however, students must complete a Summer Financial Aid form to apply.

If students need to withdraw from courses, they should be aware of the implications of withdrawal for financial aid recipients.
