Financial Aid Award

Once you have submitted your FAFSA to the US Department of Education, the information you provided will be used to determine your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). This information then is downloaded into the West Virginia University system and either

(1) You will be selected for verification.

(2) You will receive a financial aid award letter.

Remember ALL initial correspondence about your financial aid comes from the main West Virginia University campus in Morgantown. Do not throw it away!

Verification

The verification request is mailed from WVU and will give directions to access the verification forms via your MiX account. Please return the completed verification form and any additional information requested to the Office of Enrollment Services, Potomac State College, 75 Arnold Street, Keyser, WV 26726.

Financial Aid Award Letter

A financial aid award letter is mailed to you from West Virginia University in Morgantown and provides a listing of the financial aid resources that will be available to you for the academic year. Once the award notice is received, you must review the financial aid offered online by logging into the STAR system, using your MIX ID which is located on the award letter. If you have problems logging in or have questions about your MIX account, please review the information at http://mixinfo.wvu.edu , contact the OIT Help Desk at 304-203-4444, or e-mail oithelp@mail.wvu.edu . If you do not have access to the internet, contact the Potomac State College of WVU Enrollment Services Office at 304-788-6820.

To review the offer:

1.Log into your MIX account at http://mixinfo.wvu.edu

2. Click on the STAR tab

3.Click on "Click Here to Enter STAR"

4.Click on "Financial Aid"

5.Click on "Award"

6. Click on "Award by Aid Year"

7. Select aid year Example: 2013-14

8.Click on "Accept Award Offer" tab

Please make a decision on the financial aid offer within 15 days.  If you don’t reply, the offer may be canceled and you might not be able to reinstate some previously offered aid.  Important information is contained in the Paying for College: Understanding our Financial Aid Offer brochure that is included in your award offer so be sure to review this publication. 

Making a decision on your financial aid offer is not an official commitment to attend PSC.  If you accept the financial aid offer and later decide not to attend, you can request cancellation by emailing PSC-FInAid@mail.wvu.edu or calling 304-788-6820.

You may grant access to a parent/guest to view your information, including financial aid.  To grant proxy access, visit http://parent-guest.portal.wvu.edu/

Please note that aid listed as “estimated” will be updated to “accepted” once final approval is received from the agency; therefore, no decision is necessary.

Federal Work-Study

To receive an offer of Federal Work-Study, you must have completed the FAFSA by March 1, indicated you were interested in work and demonstrated financial need.  Limited federal funding restricts the number of awards offered.  If your financial aid offer includes Federal Work-Study, you will want to check out the additional information at http://potomacstatecollege.edu/admissions/financing_your_education/employment_program.html

Federal Direct Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized)

First-time borrowers must complete a master promissory note and entrance counseling at http://studentloans.gov before funds will be released.

Federal Direct PLUS Loans

If your parent is interested in borrowing on your behalf, he/she must complete the PLUS Request process at http://studentloans.gov .  Eligible parents may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any financial aid.  Upon approval, the parent borrower will be notified of the process for  completing a PLUS master pormissory note.  If your parent will not apply for this loan, please contact us at PSC-FinAId@mail.wvu.edu or 304-788-6820.
