Federal Work-Study Program
Federal Work-Study is a form of financial aid that enables students earn money to help pay for educational expenses through part-time employment. Employers include many campus offices and departments and non-profit organizations. Most jobs are on campus.
The Federal Work-Study offer included in the financial aid package is the maximum amount of money the student will be eligible to earn under the program; actual earnings are dependent upon the number of hours actually worked.
Students are paid $8.00 per hour and will receive a paycheck every two weeks for the hours they have worked.
Federal Work-Study earnings are considered taxable income and are treated just like any other employment when completing tax returns. Work-Study earnings, however, are not considered as income on the FAFSA when the student re-applies for financial aid for the next school year.
Work-Study Assignments
Students who are awarded federal Work-Study as part of their financial aid package can get their job assignment during the Student Advising and Registration days (SARs). Assignments also may be picked up in the Enrollment Services office at 75 Arnold Street during the first week of classes.
Once a student has been assigned work-study, they will need to complete a payroll processing package which includes the I9-Form before they can begin working. At that time, two forms of identification such as a driver's license or birth certificate and original social security card are requried. Copies of any documentation are not acceptable.
All payroll checks will be directly deposited. Students must have a voided check or form from the student's bank which includes the routing number and account number to finalize the direct deposit process.
