Catamounts End Regular Season with National Ranking
Sophomore Dereck Gimpel shot a 68 on the third to last event of the season as the Catamounts posted their best score of the spring and finished strong heading into the Region XX Championship. At Norvelt Golf Club, Gimpel posted the third lowest score in school history as his 7 birdies led the Catamounts to a team score of 294, just 2 strokes off of the school record. He was followed by Jordan Schneider at even par 72, Chris Bushey at 76, and Chris Pascoe at 78.
“It was a great round of golf and the team finally put some good scores together,” said Potomac State Head Coach Aaron Edwards. “Consistency has been our strong point all year and we finally showed we could post the low round that will be needed in the post season.”
In the final two matches of the year, freshman Kyle Hudgins stepped up and shot rounds of 76 and 74 to close out the regular season. In the final match of the year, the team posted a 308 in tough conditions, and finished the regular season on a winning note that sees the Catamounts move to 24-0.
Potomac State will be looking to defend their Region XX Championship for the 4th consecutive year when they host the event starting on May 7th at Rocky Gap Golf Resort.
