Dillon fires two under in PSC victory

McHenry, MD- The weather at the Wisp Golf Resort was what most would consider less than desirable.  The constant 20 MPH winds and cold temperatures didn't seem to stop Brendan Dillon from posting the best score of the spring season for the Potomac State College golf team.  Dillon carved up the normally tough course in less than ideal conditions.  On the day, Dillon fired a 70 to lead the Catamounts over Salem University.  The Catamounts posted a 308 on the day as Salem recorded a 321.

The win moved the Catamounts record against WVIAC opponents to 22-2 on the season.  Matt McKelvie and Kyle Sarai led the NCAA DII squad from Salem with rounds of 73 and 74 respectively.  The Catamounts were helped with rounds of 77 from Matt Pellillo, 78 from Luke Dempsey, and finally a round of 83 from Travis Kidwell.

Dillon posted 4 birdies on the day and avoided the big numbers on the tough track.  "The Wisp is always a tough course," said PSC Head Coach Aaron Edwards.  "Today the winds and colder temperatures made it even tougher.  Usually we see a few golfers out, but today no one else was on the course except for the teams.  I think this tells you what the weather was like."  Dillon has posted solid rounds all semester in leading the Catamounts as they have their eye on a second straight Region XX title.  As coach Edwards said, "The guys have had one goal all year and that was to get to the National tournament.  We have a week layoff, and then have our opportunity to do just that.  I think we are finally starting to come together and play a little better golf, and I am sure the Region XX Championship will test us even more."

The 4th ranked Catamounts will not play again until the Region XX tournament on May 4-5 at Pittsburgh National Golf Club in Pittsburgh, PA.  The team looks to defend their championship against strong teams from Harford Community College (2008 region XX runner-up), CCAC North, and College of Southern Maryland among others.
