Start spreading the news.

Potomac State Baseball will continue their season this weekend with their sights set on Grand Junction, Colorado.  But in order to make the trip to the Western Slope, they must first travel to New York and the Eastern District Championship.

The Catamounts just wrapped up their 12th Region XX Championship since 2000 with an 11-0 win over number 15th ranked Harford Community College on Sunday.

Starting on Friday, the Eastern District Championship will involve teams from Regions XX (Potomac State), Region XV (host team Monroe College) and Region X (Tournament winner USC-Lancaster and Regular Season Champion USC-Sumter).

The four-team, double elimination tournament will take place at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY.

This will be the 12th Eastern District Championship for Potomac State College.  On four occasions that Catamounts have won the Championship to advance to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Since 2000, no team has appeared in more EDC than Potomac State College. In addition, their four World Series appearances is only topped in the Eastern District by Region X powerhouse Spartanburg Methodist with the Pioneers making seven JUCO stops.

Monroe will be in their first EDC since their only appearance in 2009.  USC-Sumter also played in that 2009 tournament and is making their second straight EDC, finishing second last season.  USC-Lancaster is making their second appearance in three years, as they played in the EDC in 2013 at Potomac State.

Monroe, Sumter and Lancaster will all be looking to make their first JUCO World Series.

Monroe, 34-15 will be the number one seed as the host team.  USC-Lancaster, 32-17 will be the second seed and will take on Potomac State, 34-8 in the opening game.  USC-Sumter, 38-18 is seeded fourth and will battle Monroe in game two on Friday.

Potomac State has interestingly played all three teams earlier this season.

The Catamounts split a pair of games with USC-Sumter in their opening weekend, winning 5-1 and falling 4-3.  The following weekend USC-Lancaster shutout PSC 3-0, and late in the season Potomac State split a doubleheader with Monroe at Golden Park winning the opener 4-3 and falling in the nightcap 10-3.
