Baseball: Garrett rallies late to down Catamounts

MCHENRY, MD — Chris Nakashima came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning and Joey Johnson struck out the side in the top of the ninth as Garrett edged Potomac State 5-4 Monday afternoon at Garrett College.

The Catamounts landed the first blow by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, and built a 4-0 lead by adding a run in the third. The Lakers fired their first salvo in the fourth, cutting the lead to 4-1 on a solo home run by Johnny Kesling, and then made it 4-3 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Nakashima got his single that scored Mitch Davis in the eighth that gave Garrett its first lead.

Davis went 2 for 4 with two singles, while Dontae Eubanks supplied two doubles and a single. Connor Archer had a double and two singles as part of Garrett’s 13-hit afternoon.

Potomac State’s Daniel Kerwin went 3 for 4 with a double, and Matt Jeffrey doubled twice.

The Lakers (14-12) play two against Montgomery today, 2 p.m., at home. The Cats (17-7) host Shenandoah on Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.
