Baseball: Catamounts split pair with Mercyhurst NE to claim series

Keyser, WV- Potomac State held on to an early 9-1 lead for a 9-7 win in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Golden Park.

In the opening game the Saints Jim Salano struck out six for a complete game 3-0 shutout over the Catamounts. The sophomore, walked just one and allowed just five hits in the win.

MNE’s Drew Delsignore hit a solo home run in the first providing all the run support Salano would need.

In game two, Potomac State Matt Maiers two-run home run in the bottom of the first propelled the Catamounts to a 9-1 lead after five innings. Andrew Kowalo and Malik Brown each added two RBI’s for PSC.

Dalton Westfall picked up the win for Potomac State, raising his record to 2-1. Maiers worked the final 1 1/3 to pick up his second save of the year.

Potomac State, 11-5 will travel to Wye Mills, MD on Wednesday for a single game with Chesapeake College staring at 2:00 p.m.
