Baseball: Catamounts drop final game of weekend to USC Sumter

Florence, SC- USC-Sumter right-hand pitcher Colie Bowers kept Potomac State hitters off balance for five innings and Sumter held off a late rally from the Catamounts to hold onto a 4-3 win at the Pepsi Invitational on Sunday.

Bowers struck out seven and allowed just one hit to raise his record to 2-0 on the season.

William Thomas led Sumter with three hits as the Fire Ants out hit PSC 12-5.

Potomac State rallied in the final two innings but the effort fell short as the Catamounts left the tying and winning runs on base in the final inning.

Russell Schwertfeger has two hits for PSC, (1-2).

Matt Maiers took the loss for Potomac State.

The Catamounts return to Florence, SC next weekend for four games in the second week of the Pepsi Invitational.
