Baseball: Catamounts pick up pair of wins in South Carolina

Florence, SC- One weeks after dropping four straight games to open the season, Potomac State rebounded with a pair of wins at the Pepsi Invitational.

In the opener, Brandon Gochenour gave the Catamounts a quality start as he allowed just two runs in four innings to pick up the win in PSC’s 4-3 win over Heartland Community College.

Gochenour scattered five hits and struck out four to pick up his first collegiate win.  Kris Van Camp came on for the final three innings to pick up the save. 

PSC scored all four runs in the second inning on RBI’s from DeJhard Kimbrough, Marcell Barrett and Russell Schwertfeger. 

In game two Potomac State jumped out to a commanding 9-0 lead on Wake Tech Community College, but then had to rally in the final inning for an 11-9 win.

Schwertfeger drove in two runs as did Seth Roadcap.

Joe LaRocca drove in three runs including a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. 

Connor Christner picked up the win with two innings of work in relief.  Same Aloi notched the save with scoreless seventh inning.

Potomac State, 2-4, will be back in action on Sunday, for the final day of the tournament at 9:30am with a matchup with JUCO power Walter State.  Later that day the Cats will face USC-Lancaster who Potomac State faced in last year’s Eastern District Tournament.
