Baseball: Potomac State pounds Cecil in sweep

NORTH EAST, MD — Potomac State won a home run derby in the first game, and Tyler Skidmore smacked a pair of round trippers in the second to power Potomac State to a 13-10, 13-6 sweep of Cecil in college baseball Sunday afternoon.

The teams combined for six home runs in the first game. Jack Ricker hit a solo home run and Russell Schwertfeger belted a three-run shot during a five-run second inning that gave Potomac State (28-20) an early 7-1 lead.

Joe LaRocca went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Justin Palmer went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Seth Roadcap and Jarin Jenkins doubled and single for the Catamounts, who had 16 hits.

Anthony Jefferson, Nick Roepken, Tovine Potts and Robert Williams homered for Cecil. Potts also singled twice.

In the second game, Potomac State took control with an eight-run fourth inning, highlighted by three-run home runs by Skidmore and Justin Palmer and a two-run double by Jarin Jenkins.

Skidmore also homered in the sixth and finished with three runs scored and four RBIs for Potomac State, which had 16 hits, 12 going for extra bases. Palmer homered, doubled twice and drove in five runs, Jack Ricker doubled and singled, and Jenkins, Adam Ruppenthal, David Delawder, Brock Smith, Joe LaRocca and Texas Cobb doubled.

Joe Zirolli homered and Potts doubled and singled for Cecil (17-26).
