Baseball: Catamounts swing past Mercyhurst NE in sweep

Keyser, WV- Potomac State banged out 28 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Mercyhurst NE Friday afternoon at Golden Park.  The Catamounts won the opener 9-3 and cruised in the night-cap to a 21-2 win.

In addition to the strong offensive attack, the Catamounts got two complete game efforts on the mound.  Brandon Gochenour pitched seven innings, striking out six and walking just two in the opening game to raise his record to 3-1.  That was followed by Connor Christner’s complete game, in which the freshman allowed just four hits and struck out five to pick up the win.

In game one, six different Catamounts drove in a run.

Jarin Jenkins led the way with a home run and two singles.  Justin Palmer and Russell Schwertfeger added two hits apiece for PSC.

In game two, PSC used a 12-run opening inning to cruise to the sweep.

Joe LaRoccia led PSC in game two with a single and a home run, driving in five runs.

Matt Jeffery went 3-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.  Jack Ricker drove in three runs, as eight different Catamounts drove in a run.

The Catamounts, 12-9, have now won nine in a row and will conclude the four game series with the Saints on Saturday for a noon twin bill.
