Baseball: Harford stops Potomac State

WYE MILLS — Daulton Weeks hit a pair of home runs and finished 4 for 5 with four runs scored and four driven in as top-seeded Harford beat third-seeded Potomac State 11-2 for the Region XX, Division I baseball championship Sunday afternoon at Chesapeake College.

The win leaves the Fighting Owls, who banged out 16 hits, on the doorstep of a 50-win season. The middle of the order did the most damage, as Weeks, Joe Burton and Jack Hammer were a combined 10 for 14 with two homers, four doubles, seven runs scored and six RBIs.

Harford (49-9) grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer by Weeks and an RBI single by Hammer.

Dominic DiSabatino’s RBI double in the fourth made it 5-0, and two batters later Weeks homered again to extend the lead to 7-0.

Potomac State got on the board in the seventh when DeJhard Kimbrough singled and scored on a triple by Jack Ricker. Russell Schwertfeger hit an RBI single in the ninth for the other run.

Burton hit three doubles, Hammer had three singles, DiSabatino a double and single and Ty Williams a triple for Harford. Josh Silvestri got the win, allowing seven hits, and one run, walking none and striking out eight in seven innings.

Schwertfeger led Potomac State, which had 10 hits, by going 4 for 5 with a double and three singles. Kimbrough was 3 for 4 and scored both runs.

Potomac State finished the year with a 30-22 record.

Harford, which won all four meetings with Potomac State this year, will host the Eastern District Championship Series this weekend.
