Baseball: Cuyahoga clutch hits down Potomac State 3-1

Fredericksburg, Va. — Matt Hilderbrandt’s two-run single in the top of the eighth inning snapped a tie game and lifted Cuyahoga to a 3-1 win over Potomac State in junior college baseball Friday at Golden Park.

Sami Mehmed walked, Collin Minor was hit by a pitch and Garett Robberts singled to load the bases in the Cuyahoga eighth. Mehmed and Minor scored on Hilderbrandt’s single.

Potomac State had tied it 1-1 in the sixth when Brandon Gochenour doubled and scored on a triple by Joe LaRocca.

Robberts had two singles and Matt Starcovic a double for Cuyahoga (6-7). Gochenour and Dominic Peroni doubled and singled for Potomac State (8-6).

Juan Perez got the win with three shutout innings. Potomac State starter Andrue Hughart allowed five hits and one run, walked one and struck out six in six innings.

The Catamounts play at Chesapeake on Wednesday.
