Baseball: Peroni powers Potomac State’s sweep

KEYSER, W.Va. — Dominic Peroni knocked in the go-ahead run in the first game and homered, doubled and drove in four runs in the second as Potomac State extended its winning streak to 11 with a sweep of Lakeland (Ohio) by scores of 4-1 and 12-2.

In the opener, Peroni doubled home Alex Taylor to snap a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth. Brandon Gochenour added an RBI single later in the inning and David Delawder had an RBI double in the sixth to make it 4-1.

Andrue Hughart scattered five hits, allowed one run, walked one and struck out six for the win. Glavine Harpe singled twice and Walker Marlowe had an RBI double for Lakeland.

Taylor doubled and singled and Brock Bonadio singled twice for the Catamounts (20-9).

In the nitecap, Taylor went 3 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, Sebastian Williamson doubled, singled and scored three times. Seth Wright, Joseph Dodrill and Mitchell Henshaw doubled.

Gochenour and Hunter Stafford split time on the mound in the six-inning game. Stafford threw three hitless relief innings, walked none and struck out three.

Cody Pittenger tripled, singled and drove in two runs for Lakeland (11-14). Alex Medina tripled and Spencer Schultz singled twice.

Potomac State plays at Garrett on Friday.
