Baseball: Henshaw, Potomac State slam Cecil

KEYSER, W.Va. — Mitchell Henshaw hit a grand slam in the first game and a go-ahead RBI double in the second to power Potomac State to a 10-0, 4-3 sweep of Cecil in college baseball Sunday afternoon at Golden Park.

The Catamounts rolled to the win in the five-inning first game. They built a 6-0 lead with six-run third inning, and Henshaw’s grand slam in the fourth capped the scoring, making it 10-0.

David Delawder had a pair of singles and Dominic Peroni had a single and two RBIs. Henshaw finished with five RBIs.

Tanner Skidmore allowed four hits, walked none and struck out two in the five-inning shutout.

In the second game, the Cecil took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Potomac State tied it with a two-run second and took the lead with a two-run third.

Texas Cobb and Alex Taylor had RBI singles in the second inning. In the third, Brandon Gochenour walked and Joe LaRocca singled. Henshaw’s double knocked in Gochenour and gave the Cats a 3-2 lead. LaRocca scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2.

Both teams had six hits. Taylor had two singles for Potomac State (14-9). Joe Zirolli hit a solo home run and a single and Nick Roepken had a double, single and RBI for Cecil (9-14).

Sebastian Williamson allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings for the win. He walked one and fanned five.

Potomac State plays Allegany on Tuesday, at 4 p.m., at the Allegany County Fairgrounds Hot Stove Complex.
