Baseball: Harford storms back to down Catamounts

BEL AIR, MD — Joey Schwartz hit a grand slam to put Harford ahead, and the bats followed with eight additional runs as the Fighting Owls defeated Potomac State 16-8 in the Region XX, Division I Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Harford Community College.

The Catamounts had three hits despite scoring eight runs. They got on the board first with four runs in the top half of the first, where Seth Wright hit a one-out double, followed by an RBI double from Dominic Peroni.

Potomac State (35-10) extended its lead to 6-3 in the fourth when Austin Chavis hit a two-run home run.

In the bottom half of the frame, Harford got to within two before Schwartz ripped a grand slam to put the score at 8-6 in favor of the Fighting Owls. They added three runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh.

For Harford, Nick D’Amore and Ryan Calhoun had two hits and three RBIs apiece.

Potomac State scored its final two runs in the sixth.
