Potomac State Baseball has two players selected in Major League Baseball Draft.
New York, NY- Potomac State College, coming off one of its most successful baseball season ever (41-15) had two players selected in the 2006 first year Major League Baseball Draft held this week.
Sophomore pitcher Enrique Garcia was a 20th round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the 597 player taken overall. Garcia, who is signed to continue his college career at the University of Miami, (FL) finished his career at Potomac State with 173 strikeouts in 143 2/3 innings. He was named an honorable mention All-American by the NJCAA and led Potomac State to back to back trips to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Garcia was also named to the JUCO World Series All-Tournament team as he struck out eleven hitters in the 4-2 complete game win over South Suburban Community College.
Garcia, (Mechanicsville, MD/ Chopticon HS) was also a 17th round selection in last year's draft by the Chicago White Sox. He decided not to sign and returned to Potomac State where he turned in a 9-2 season with 103c strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings of work and opposing hitters hit just .199 against him.
Freshman Joe Agreste was a 32nd round selection of the Seattle Mariners. Agreste led Potomac State this spring with six homeruns and a batting average of .348 with 70 hits and 57 runs batted in.
Agreste, (Chesapeake, VA/ Greenbrier Christian Academy), was also drafted last season by the Mariners in the 38th round. The lefty, like Garcia was named to the All-Tournament team at the JUCO World Series.
