Catamounts split at Catonsville to end regular season.

 

Catonsville, MD- Potomac State ended their regular season by splitting a pair of games at CCBC-Catonsville on Sunday afternoon.  Potomac State, 35-8, will now play in the Region XX Division 1 Baseball Tournament beginning on Friday at Joe Cannon Stadium.

 

Catonsville won game one 7-5 behind a strong mound performance from Jordan Wiley who pitched a complete game and struck out five to pick up the win. 

 

Kevin Griffin hit a two run home run in the seventh inning and Matt Schrader drove home two runs with a double in the fourth.  Potomac State held a 2-1 lead heading into the sixth inning, but Catonsville roughed up PSC reliever matt Moceri for six runs in the sixth and took the lead.  The Catamounts came back in the seventh, led by Griffin's long ball but were unable to complete the comeback.

 

In game two, Potomac State overcame a 3-0 deficit as they scored 10 unanswered runs en route to a 10-3 win.  Chris Szafran and Gary Williams both contributed two run singles in a seven run third inning.  In that inning PSC sent 11 hitters to the plate and Williams delivered two hits in the inning. 

 

Jason Lombard, Jacke Healey and Mike Smith each drove in runs with base hits. 

 

Nathan Fike picked up the win and takes his record to 7-0 on the year.  After a rough 1st inning Fike settled in and struck out three in four innings of work.  Matt Fryer, Dave Higgins and Mike Smith closed out the game with one inning of work each.
