Potomac State falls to Hagerstown in Region XX Finals
Arnold, MD- Potomac State fell to Hagerstown Community College by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday in the finals of the Region XX Tournament held at Anne Arundel Community College.
Hagerstown’s Arik Taylor pitched his Hawks to the region crown by tossing 8 2/3 innings and striking out eleven and allowing just three runs. Charles Johnson and Matt Byres both hit home runs for HCC, who will now face Pitt Community College in the Eastern District Finals starting Saturday at Hagerstown.
Potomac State fought back in the loser’s bracket to get to the Championship game with a come from behind victory over Monroe College earlier in the day. In that game Justin Grantham and Brock Stevens both singled in runs in the bottom of the eighth as the Catamounts scored five runs in the inning for a dramatic 12-10 win.
Jacke Healey hit a three run home run and finished the game with two doubles and four runs batted in. Mike Smith picked up the win on the mound and Wes Gross worked a perfect ninth for the save.
In the finale, Potomac State was unable to figure out Taylor, as the Catamounts could only muster six single and a double against the right hander. PSC left ten men on base.
Jonathan Hash took the loss for PSC, who finish the season at 37-10, as the freshman worked six innings and struck out five.
