Potomac State rallies late for sweep over Cecil.

Catamounts finish season 32-12; Region XX Tourney starts Friday

Keyser, WV- Facing a 5-2 deficit entering the last inning, Potomac State rallied with four runs to gain a 6-5 win to complete a doubleheader seep over Cecil College at Golden Park on Saturday.

 

Cecil had taken a 5-0 fourth inning lead highlighted by a Juan Rivera 3-run home run off Potomac State starter Paul Chenoweth. 

 

Potomac State closed the lead to 5-2 in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from Gary Williams and a RBI fielder's choice from Kurtis Voytell.

 

Trailing by three entering the final inning Dominick Hayes hit a one-out single that was followed by a walk from Voytell, who was run for by Torian Cyrus.  Jason Lombard then reached on an infield single to load the bases.  Hayes scored on a fielder's choice from Kevin Griffin that cut the lead to 5-3.  Seth Roy was called on as a pinch runner for Griffin.  Brock Porter the stepped to the plate and laced a RBI single to left field that scored Lombard making the game 5-4.

 

Justin Grantham then lined a double that hugged the right field line that scored Roy and tied the game at 5 all.  Cecil elected to walk Cody Dalton to load the bases.  Scott Davis then drew a four pitch walk to bring home Porter with the winning run.

 

Dalton, Grantham and Jason Lombard all finished with two hits each.

 

Cole Hardway, who worked a scoreless top of the seventh, picked up the win for PSC.

 

The Catamounts won game one 10-4 behind a complete game effort from Eric Hinkle.  The sophomore raised his record to 7-1 and struck out 1o Cecil hitters.  

 

Dalton and Voytell both added two hits in the opening win. 

 

Potomac State, now 32-12 will next be in action in the 2009 Region XX Division 1 Baseball Tournament held in Wye Mills, MD starting on Friday.
