Potomac State Pounds Finger Lakes , 16-0, 22-3.

 

Keyser , WV--- Potomac State came out swinging the bats on Saturday at Golden Park in route to a sweep of Finger Lakes Community College by scores of 16-0 and 22-3.

 

Potomac State's offense contributed 25 hits, including 12 for extra bases in the two games that were both shortened due to the mercy rule.

 

In game one Potomac State batted around in both the first and second innings.  The Catamount 5-run first inning was keyed by Bill Wooten's 2-run triple and the consecutive singles by Eric Saffell, Tino Sloboda and Lou Proietti.  The second inning began with a leadoff single by Justin Dailey.  Brent Lockhart then walked and both scored on Wooten's double and his fourth RBI of the game.  After two outs Proietti, Ryan Rowe and Brennen Dayton all added base hits to cap the seven run inning.

 

J.T. Osburn hit his second homerun in the third inning.  Saffell and Sloboda then hit back to back triples to continue the offensive attack.  On the mound, Freshman Zac Thomas picked up his first college win with five strong innings of shutout baseball.  He struck out 5, walked one and allowed just 2 hits in pitching the complete game.

 

In game two, the Catamounts bats remained hot.  After spotting Finger Lakes a 3-0 lead on J.T. Thomas' 3-run homerun, PSC answered by batting around in the first, second and third innings.  Dailey led the onslaught with a single, double, triple and three runs batted in.  Saffell had two doubles and three RBI's, while Osburn, Sloboda and Freshman D.J. Payne each added two runs batted in.

 

Dale Kestner picked up the win on the mound striking out four in five innings of work.
