Potomac State wins battle with Seward; stays alive at JUCO

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Despite trailing by five runs, Potomac State was able to win a back-and-forth battle 12-11 to eliminate Seward at the JUCO World Series on Tuesday.

The Saints (2-2) jumped out to an 8-3 lead following a 3-run inside-the-park home run by Jake Barrios. The Catamounts (2-1) answered with two runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 8-5. They then exploded for five runs in the 5th inning to take a 10-9 lead.

Seward reclaimed the lead in the 7th, but saw it quickly disappear as the Catamounts added a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th for a 12-11 lead.

Alan Filauro led the attack for the Catamounts with a home run and two doubles and six runs driven in.  Nate Antone and Zach Markel added three hits apiece for PSC.

Nate Antone survived got the win, and survived a late rally by the Saints in the 9th inning. Seward posted back-to-back singles with two outs before Antone struck out the final batter to end the game.

Potomac State doesn't play again until Thursday. They'll meet the winner of Iowa Western vs. Navarro/Chipola.
