Catamounts drop season opener at Pepsi Invitational

Florence, SC- Chattanooga State Community College blew open a 1-run game with a 10-run inning en route to a 14-3 win over Potomac State College in the opening game of the 2012 season for the Catamounts.

Chattanooga State, who improved to 10-4 on the season, jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on a first inning grand slam off the bat of Taylor Patterson.

Potomac State answered back in the second inning when Jake Potter led off the inning with a double. After two quick outs Fabio Arcelay drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Mike Eisel then put PSC on the board with a ringing double down the line. Ryan LaRose followed with a two run single to make the game 4-3.

Potomac State starter Brendan Miller retired the side in the third inning but after that was unable to hold the Tigers bats down. Miller allowed six earned runs in three innings of work.

Chattanooga State sent 14 hitters to the plate in the 10-run fourth inning. Conner Gilbert and Jordan McDonald both homered in the inning and Zack Zarzour added a two run single.

Potomac State, (0-1) was out hit in the game 11-6.

LaRose and Potter finished with two hits apiece for PSC.

Potomac State will play later tonight at 8PM against Florence Darlington Tech.
