Baseball: Garrett sweeps Potomac State

McHenry, MD— Garrett College’s pitchers combined to allow just three runs on eight hits as it swept Potomac State, 7-2 and 6-1, in a doubleheader at Garrett on Wednesday.

Potomac State fell behind quickly in the first game, as Garrett started with two runs in the first, one in the second and three more in the third. Potomac State scored both of its runs in the top of the fifth but Garrett got one back in the bottom of the inning to give it enough of a lead to secure the five-run win.

Catcher Ryan LaRose hit two singles for Potomac State.

Sebastian Niemand hit two doubles and Drew Mason added a double and a single for Garrett.

Ryan Conner hit a solo home run in the third inning of the second game to give Potomac State its only lead of the day at 1-0. The Lakers then scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth with RBI singles from Jason Hepple, Alan Bencid and Ryan Lozada.

Joe Mascolo allowed the home run and just three hits overall, throwing a complete game for Garrett.

Potomac State drops to 12-16 and hosts Hagerstown on Friday at 1 p.m.
