Baseball: Catamounts survive in extras for 10-7 win in Region XX Semis
Wye Mills, MD- Potomac State staved off elimination with an eleven inning 10-7 win over ASA Saturday in the Region XX Tournament.
Steve Miele came on in relief for the Catamounts and picked up the win as the sophomore pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Miele entered the game in the bottom of the ninth after ASA has scored three runs to tie the game at 7 all. He struck out five of the eleven hitters he faced and allowed just one hit.
The Catamounts picked up three unearned runs in the top of the eleventh when Ryan Larose led off the inning and reached on an error. Demetreous Taylor moved him up with a sacrifice bunt. Jake Potter then grounded a ball to third base that was thrown away at first allowing LaRose to score.
Ryan Conner then singled, and then Miele added an RBI single that made the game 9-7. David Kimbrough added an RBI groundout to make the score 10-7.
Miele retired the side in order in the eleventh to close the game.
Potomac State will now face off with the number one seeded Harford Community College on Sunday at 11am. The Catamounts will need to beat the Owls twice in order to claim their eleventh Region Title since 2000.
PSC was outhit in the game 13-12, but ASA committed five errors.
Mike Drye pitched the Catamounts deep in the game with eight innings of solid work. The freshman allowed four runs total, but only one after the second inning.
PSC held a 7-4 lead going into the ninth inning, but as has been their trend all tournament ASA fought back to tie the game at 7.
T.J. Weisenburg, Ryan Conner and Miele each had two hits apiece for PSC.
