Baseball: PSC drops pair of close games in South Carolina

Florence, SC- Potomac State College opened their 2013 season by running into a pair of aces that held the Catamounts bats in check as they dropped their opening two games of the season.

In the opener Cecil’s Cody Albright struck out ten Catamount hitters in six innings of work as led the Seahawks to a 3-2 win.

Elliot McCummings led Potomac State with a double and a single and drove in a run. Tre Porter also added a double and a run scoring single. The Catamounts outhit Cecil six to three.

Jamie Miller pitched well in his college debut but took the loss. The freshman struck out seven in five innings of work and walked just one.

In the nightcap Potomac State fell to the host school Florence Darlington Tech by a score of 3-1. FDT rolled out their number one pitcher, Jared Cheek and the sophomore did not disappoint. The hard-throwing right-hander struck out 12 in just five innings of work.

The game was called after five innings due to a heavy fog that filled the cold night’s air from early in the game.

PSC got their only run of the game in the fourth Zach Stolipher drove in McCummings with a deep double to centerfield.

Tanner Everton took the loss for Potomac State giving up just one earned run in three innings of work.

Potomac State will be back in action Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. when they face Region X power USC Sumter.
