Potomac State Baseball announces campaign for Clubhouse Project at Golden Park
KEYSER, WV, December 16, 2013 -- In recent years, Potomac State College of West Virginia University’s campus has been enhanced with renovations and construction and the momentum continues with the onset of a new and improved Golden Park, home to the Catamount baseball team. Fundraising efforts have already begun for the estimated $250,000 project that will include the construction of a player clubhouse, concessions stand and public restroom facilities.
“I’m very excited about this great opportunity to start such an important project for our baseball program, college and community,” said Potomac State Head Baseball Coach Doug Little. “The Golden Park Stadium Project will allow us to move this facility and program to a level that future, as well as former players, will be proud of.”
"We are very excited about these plans to upgrade our baseball facility," said Potomac State Athletic Director Shawn White. "Potomac State Baseball has a proud tradition and we need to ensure we have a facility that matches that tradition and helps build on its future."
“I’m pleased that we’re advancing our athletic offerings and facilities forward to the next level,” said Campus Provost Dr. Leonard Colelli. “These enhancements will not only provide more opportunities to showcase our student athletes but also should help the College’s recruitment and retention efforts.”
The administration is committed to offering as many intercollegiate athletic opportunities to our students as possible. Recent improvements to many of our athletic venues is testimony to this support. The College will continue to enhance its academic and athletic facilities. A clubhouse addition to our baseball complex and the addition of grandstands are among future additions and improvements, “said Campus Provost Colelli.
This project is in conjunction with the addition of four new sports, men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s cross country, at Potomac State beginning in the fall of 2014. A major renovation of Stayman Field is also expected with the installation of artificial turf and lights and renovation of the current field house to better support lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer and intramural events.
Construction of the Golden Park project is expected to begin early in 2014 and be completed by August 1, 2014.
Catamount fans can help make this project a reality, by being a part of it with the “Buy A Brick” Program. This personalized, engraved brick will forever be a part of this facility and will stand as a reminder of the proud tradition that is Potomac State Baseball.
This project, which is part of WVU’s “A State of Minds” campaign is also open to major gift contributions. The Golden Park Stadium Project may be recognized with naming opportunities within the facility. All gifts to the Golden Park Stadium Project Facility are processed by the WVU Foundation, Inc.
