Mitchell and Miller pitch Catamounts past Garrett
Keyser, WV- Evan Mitchell and Jamie Miler each gave Potomac State a quality start as the Catamounts swept a pair of games over Garrett College Thursday afternoon at Golden Park.
In the opener Mitchell delivered his second straight complete game effort and struck out seven in the 4-3 win. The freshman allowed just three runs, (all in the third inning), and walked just one to raise his record to 4-0.
“Evan has really been pitching well,” said Potomac State Head Coach Doug Little. “He works ahead and changes speeds and is becoming a competitor on the mound.”
Adam Meeker’s two run single in the bottom of the third got PSC on the board and RBI’s from Connar Bastaich and Elliott McCummings gave PSC the lead.
Garrett picked up RBI’s from Joey Johnston and Tyler Byers.
In game two Jamie Miller pitched six innings, striking out six and walking just one as PSC picked up the sweep with a 6-1 win. Miller improves to 3-0 on the year and allowed just one run, which was unearned.
“Jamie was really good today,” said Little. “He has become the leader of this staff and he gives you all he’s got each time he’s out there. I am proud of his effort and his leadership.”
The Catamounts picked up RBI’s from five different players with Tre Kerns leading the way with two.
Bastaich, Meeker, Dan Kerwin and Andrew Kowalo each added RBI’s for PSC. Kowalo, who in game one saw his 10-game hit streak come to an end was 3-3, with a double and two singles.
Potomac State improves to 16-8-1 on the season and Garrett falls to 4-11.
“Wins are hard to get in this Region,” said Little. “This is why we work so hard, because every game takes effort and concentration and you need multiple guys to make contributions.”
“I like our team, but we are still a work in process and need to keep improving.”
Potomac State will next host Mercyhurst NE for four games at Golden Park. The series originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will now be played on Sunday and Monday. The twin bills on each day will begin at 1:00pm.
