Catamounts push win streak to seven with sweep over Lakeland
Keyser, WV- Fraser Brown’s pinch hit RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a two-all tie and led Potomac State to a 4-2 win over Lakeland Community College in the first of two games on Wednesday afternoon at Golden Park.
Potomac State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Billy Sager and Elliott McCummings hit back-to-back doubles. Those were followed by an RBI single from Connar Bastaich.
Lakeland picked up an unearned run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Lakers then tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single from Jose Barrera.
After two quick outs in the bottom of the sixth, Andrew Kowalo was hit by a pitch. After moving to second on a wild pitch, he came racing home with the go-ahead run on Brown’s ringing single to right field.
PSC picked up an insurance run when Jamaal Windom, who pinch-ran for Brown, raced home when a bunt single from Jamison Jones was thrown away by the Lakeland pitcher.
Jamie Miller picked up the win, with 1 2/3 innings of relief work. Ethan Emmart gave the Catamounts a quality start with 5 1/3 innings of work.
In game two Alex Levitan drove in four runs as Potomac State cruised to a 13-1 to complete the sweep.
Kyle Elliott gave the Catamounts a five –inning complete game effort, as the freshman struck out two and allowed just one unearned run.
Jamaal Windom and Elliott McCummings each added two hits for PSC, who outhit Lakeland 11-3.
Potomac State, (26-10-1), will travel to Garrett College for a doubleheader on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
