Catamounts pick up 30th win with sweep at Shenandoah
Winchester, VA- Potomac State pushed their win streak to eleven games with a doubleheader sweep over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon by scores of 7-4 and 20-3.
In the opener Alex Levitan drove in three runs and Elliott McCummings added three hits and an RBI to lead the Catamounts.
Jamison Jones led off the game with a home run to give PSC a quick 1-0 lead. It was his fourth of the season.
Connor Gorman picked up his first win of the season with 5 1/3 innings of work. Gorman struck out four. Josh Crawford worked the finals inning and two-thirds to pick up his first save. The freshman southpaw struck out two of the six hitters he faced.
Donnie Forgacs hit a two-run home run for the Hornets, as they banged out ten hits.
Adam Meeker also added three hits for the Catamounts, who out hit the Hornets 14-10.
In game two the Catamounts took advantage of six walks and eight hit by pitches to roll to an easy win. The 20 runs scored by the Catamounts marked a season high and the first time they have scored 20 or more runs since 2009.
Meeker, McCummings, Jamaal Windom and Korey Foltz each added two hits for PSC, who ended the game with 14 hits.
Drew Hemminger was the recipient of the run support as the freshman picked up his third win of the season with five innings of scoreless work.
Potomac State, now 30-10-1, has now reached the 30-win mark in 13 of the last 15 years.
On Monday, the Catamounts will travel to Wye Mills, MD for a key Region XX game with Chesapeake College. First pitch for the 9-inning game is set for 3:30pm.
