Johnson, Sesay lead Cats to 97-75 win

MCHENRY, MD — Sophomore captains Carlton Johnson and Ishmael Sesay combined to score 61 points as Potomac State College defeated Patrick Henry 97-75 Sunday afternoon in the first game of the McDonald’s Tip-Off Classic at Garrett College.

Johnson finished with a game-high 34 points and Sesay had 27.

“Johnson and Sesay have played really well,” said Potomac State head coach Shawn White. “They’re our two sophomore captains who’ve been playing so well to get us off to this start.”

The Catamounts improved to 5-1 and will host CCBC Essex Friday evening.

Johnson, who was named to the All-Tournament team, made 12 baskets including three three-pointers and was 5 of 7 from the line. Sesay also made three threes out of his nine baskets and he was perfect six times from the free-throw line. He also pulled down 12 rebounds and had two assists.

Former Keyser High standout Peyton Hartman added 12 points, nine rebounds and had three blocks. Jaron Farrell added 10 points and dished out eight assists.

Potomac State led 48-43 at the half and outscored Patrick Henry 49-32 in the second half.

Patrick Henry was led by Rodney Livingston’s 26 points. Kiamell Queen had 15, Derrick Cates 13 and Ed Jenkins 12.
