Potomac State Men’s Basketball wins season opener
Johnson scores 30, Sesay 15 as Cats get by Howard, 86-85; Hartman solid in debut
COLUMBIA — Carlton Johnson scored 30 points, Ishmail Sesay added 15 and Peyton Hartman had a big night in his college debut to help Potomac State pull out an 86-85 win over Howard in men’s basketball Thursday evening.
Coach Shawn White’s Catamounts got the win in a season opener that featured 19 three-point goals — 11 for Howard and eight for Potomac State.
Johnson hit four three-pointers and 10 of 13 free throws for a game-high 30 points. Mike Hatfield joined Johnson and Sesay in double figures with 11 points.
Hartman, a 6-foot-7 freshman and former area standout at Keyser High, had eight points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots.
Tavon Geter led Howard with 22 points and five three-point goals.
Potomac State, which led 44-36 at halftime, plays again Saturday, against Montgomery-Germantown, in the 5 p.m. game of the Railey Realty Tournament at Garrett.
