Catamounts top Garrett in overtime
MCHENRY, MD — Carlton Johnson scored nine of his game-high 30 points in overtime to send Potomac State College to a 98-87 win over Garrett College during the final day of the Railey Realty Classic in McHenry.
Johnson finished with nine field goals, including three three-pointers, and was nine of 13 from the foul line to finish with 30 points. During the extra period he made two field goals and was perfect on five free throw attempts.
Johnson was one of four Catamounts scoring in double figures as Ishmail Sesay was right on his tail with 27 points, Micah Parker scored 11 points and Jaron Farrell added 10.
Potomac State got out to a big lead in each half, before Garrett was able to fight back each time. The Cats built a lead as large as 19 points at one time in the opening half, before the Lakers were able to trim it down to 10 points. Potomac was ahead by as many as 18 points in the second half before sharp-shotting by Garrett allowed the Lakers to rally and force overtime.
Armond Perez finished with 21 points to lead Garret, while Antonio Butler had 18 points. Matt Gibson used three three-pointers on his way to 15 points, and Din Moore had 14. Jordan Grady made five field goals for 10 points.
Potomac State (3-0) will travel to play Dundalk at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Garrett slips to 1-1 and will host Patrick Henry in the McDonalds Tournament on Saturday.
