Essex ends Potomac State’s season at Region XX Tourney
HAGERSTOWN, MD — Holding on to a one-point lead late in the second half, Potomac State suffered a devastating turnover the Catamounts were unable to recover from during a 78-71 loss to Essex in the NJCAA Division II Region XX Tournament at Hagerstown Community College.
Potomac State led 66-65 with 1:30 left to play when Essex forced a turnover and scored to take the lead for good. The lead quickly grew to six points with just inside of a minute to play as PSC began to foul and the Knights made good at the foul line. Essex was 24-for-36 as a team from the line.
Shawn Bosner poured out a game-high 24 points by converting 13 of 14 free throws and adding three three-pointers. Timon Johnson added 15 points and Emmanuel Mossengo had 13 more.
The Cats got a team-high 18 points out of Reggie Baker, and Keyser graduate Peyton Hartman scored 16. George Chase finished with 11 points and Carlton Drake scored nine.
Potomac State finishes the season 15-10 and placed second in the Western Pennsylvania College Conference Tournament after losing 85-82 to Beaver in the finals.
