Men’s Basketball: Howard holds off Potomac State 88-82
COLUMBIA, MD — Potomac State hurried back from a 15-point deficit to tie the score at halftime, but Howard’s Omari Ranggold was hot from the outside to keep the Dragons out in front during the second half of a physical, 88-82 win over the Catamounts Tuesday evening at Howard.
Ranggold converted five three-pointers on his way to a team-high 18 points, and the Dragons made nine threes compared to Potomac State’s three. Ajeni Puga added 15 points and Jeff James came through with 12.
Reggie Baker had the hot hand for the Catamounts, adding an 11 for 17 night at the line to eight field goals to score a game-high 27 points. Marcus Banks pitched in with 13 points and Tyrone Mackall added 11.
PSC (3-3) made a big run at the end of the first half and was able to tie the score at 44 going into the break. The Cats kept it close in the second half and trailed by only four with as little as 47 seconds remaining.
Though only two people fouled out, the teams combined to commit 54 fouls and shoot 79 foul shots. Neither team was able to take full advantage of their trips to the foul line as the Cats finished 19 of 36 (52.8 percent) and Howard shot 24 for 43 (55.8).
