Men’s Basketball: Potomac State shocks Beaver
Hill leads way in win over No. 2 Titans
KEYSER, W.V. — Derylton Hill led and the rest of his teammates followed as Potomac State upset the No. 2 team in NJCAA Division II, CCBC Beaver, 77-71, behind Hill’s 24 points and 13 rebounds Saturday night.
Hill led all players in scoring by sinking 11 field goals and 3 of 3 free throws. His 13 rebounds and five steals were also team highs. Reggie Baker added 20 points and six rebounds in a strong supporting role and Marcus Banks scored 13 points.
The Catamounts led 34-27 at halftime and were ahead 75-68 before a late Beaver three pointer brought it as close as 75-71. From there, Baker was fouled and hit a pair of free throws to bring the score to its final.
“We finally were able to put two good halves together,” said Potomac State coach Justin Anderson. “The guys rallied behind Derylton’s effort and I’m really proud at what they did and how they did it. We controlled the tempo and the defense from the beginning until the end.”
Beaver moved up to No. 2 in the last poll after being the No. 4 team in the previous polling. The loss snaps an 11-game win streak for the Titans (21-3).
Potomac State (11-6, 5-1 Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference) plays at Westmoreland on Monday.
