Men’s Basketball: ACM holds off PSC at Bob Kirk Classic

CUMBERLAND, MD — Mike Stevenson scored 21 points and Allegany thwarted a Potomac State comeback with solid defense in the final minutes for a 69-65 victory on the first day of the Allegany College Christmas Classic Friday evening at Bob Kirk Arena.

Stevenson hit eight field goals, including three from beyond the three-point line, and a pair of free throws in leading all scorers in a physical game between local rivals. Jon Mulmore scored 16 points and dished out five assists, while Herk Williams had a big night with eight points, 11 rebounds and six blocked shots.

“It was a very physical game, which is what you would expect from Potomac State and Allegany,’’ said ACM coach Tommie Reams, whose team led 32-30 at halftime. “It was tight the entire way.”

The Trojans’ largest lead was 11 with just under six minutes to play, but the Catamounts clawed back into it and made it a one-bucket game. Allegany’s defense rose to the occasion and, led by Williams, blocked or altered numerous Potomac State shots as the Trojans (8-3) overcame a poor shooting night to get the win.

Torrey May had 12 points to lead Potomac State (7-1), which was playing its first game in 17 days.
