Potomac State, ranked 18th found themselves facing off with 15th-ranked Northern Virginia in a game that seemed like it would be a close contest on paper, but the Catamounts roared out of the gate to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.

In the end, the Catamounts rolled past NOVA, in a battle of nationally ranked opponents 87-73.

The shooting of Taylor, who scored 14 of his 17 in the first half, helped cut the lead down to 15-10 with 11:03 to go in the first half, but it wouldn't shrink any further than that, and a three from Mayo with 10:08 to go put it into double-figures, where it would remain. A 7-0 run was punctuated by a buzzer-beating layup from Mayo to send Potomac State to the locker room up 44-24, and a 10-0 run over 2:13 pushed the lead all the way to 30 points with twelve minutes remaining. The Nighthawks began to whittle away at their disadvantage, but while the Catamounts ran out of gas, Northern Virginia simply didn't have enough time to catch up and overtake them.

George Chase led all scorers with 23 points, with Torrey Mayo adding 20, Zackery White scoring 15, and Travis Brown adding 13 to pace Potomac State. Michael West scored all 21 of his points in the second half, with another 17 points coming from Samuel Taylor in the losing effort.

Potomac State goes back on the road on Friday against CCBC-Catonsville at 7pm.
