Men’s Basketball: Potomac State falls at South Suburban
HIRAM, Ohio — Nationally ranked South Suburban, Illinois, led for most of the day, but pulled away for good in the final two minutes, handing Potomac State College a 75-63 loss Monday afternoon at Ohio’s Hiram College.
Rasheide Bell had 17 points and Jordan Mathews added another 15 to lead South Suburban. Saniel Mijatovic provided 11 points, while Anthony Harris scored 10.
The Catamounts trimmed the lead down to six points with 1:29 remaining before the teams went back-and-forth over the next couple of possessions. The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to double digits at one point before the final margin settled at eight.
BJ Hill and Justin Milstead led Potomac State with 15 points each. JR Kerr scored 13, and Nequan Carrington chipped in with eight. Carrington led the team with eight rebounds while Kerr had five.
“I thought we competed really well against a great team,” said Catamount head coach Justin Anderson. “They are a highly ranked team, and playing that kind of competition will help get us ready to play in the region tournament. I really liked our team effort against an outstanding squad on a neutral site. That’s what we’ll need in the postseason.”
The loss drops the Cats to 16-6 overall and they will travel to play at Cecil on Wednesday in a doubleheader along with the women.
