On a cool, crisp day on a very muddy course on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College, Simmons started strong as he was 15th after the first mile.  The Berkeley Springs native moved up to as high as 12th after two miles, but slipped in the final part of the race.

Harper College won the National Title with 28 points as they were led by Juan Barajos, who claimed the individual championship.

Simmons just missed All-American honors (top 15) with a 23rd place finish in a time of 29:46 over the 8 kilometer course.

PSC Head Coach Ian Hankins said, "Zac had a fantastic year for us and led our program in our inaugural year to unprecedented heights. I'm proud with the way Zac ran today as he executed our race plan almost perfectly as he stuck his nose into the mix and fought on a muddy day. We had the goal to run for all American honors, however we came up just short."
