Men’s Cross Country: Catamounts finish as Region XX Runners-Up

Arnold, MD- The Potomac State College of WVU Catamounts Cross Country Team, ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, ran in the Region XX Cross Country Championships on a beautiful sunny day in Arnold, MD. The Catamounts ended up on the podium in their inaugural year as they finished as the regional runner-up behind #2 Howard Community College.

Defending national champion Gary Smolkak ran away from the field earning him the individual title. Freshman standout Zac Simmons (Berkeley Springs, WV) once again led the way for Potomac State with his 4th place finish good enough for All-Region honors and qualifying to the NJCAA D3 National Championships. Simmons was closely followed by the Keyser, WV trio of Pierce Miller (8th), Josh Myers (11th), and Jordan Minshall (12th). Dennis Brown (Baltimore, MD) rounded out the scoring for the Catamounts with his 13th place finish.

PSC Head Coach, Ian Hankins said, "I was proud with the way the men ran as we earned regional runner-up I was especially proud of Zac Simmons becoming named to the All-Region team. Hats off to Howard for executing the perfect race strategy to win the team championship and showing they fully deserve the #2 national ranking. I look forward to seeing Zac run at the national championships in a couple weeks and hopefully the entire squad will be able to join him should we remain in the top 10 nationally when the polls are released next week"
