Men’s Cross Country: Hallow finishes second at Hornet Harrier Event

Winchester, VA- The Potomac State Cross Country Program was back in action this weekend as they made the short trek to Winchester, VA.  The Catamounts competed in the Hornet Harrier Invitational hosted by Shenandoah University at the Kernstown Battlefield.  It was a unique event as the men ran a 6k over a challenging rolling hill course on the battlefield that was started with cannon.  The men got off the line quick as Freshman Jared Hallow led for the majority of the race before fading over the final straightaway losing by just .6 of a second for his 3rd consecutive runner-up performance.  Hallow’s time was good enough to shatter the old school record by 1 minute and 58 seconds.  Greg Dirlik (32nd), Pierce Miller (42nd), Markis Grayson Aldridge (49th), and Matthew Spencer (51st) rounded out the scoring for the Catamounts who finished 7th in the 12 team invitational beating regional rival Hagerstown.

Justin Mehrer from the host Shenandoah won the Men’s Collegiate 6k Race with a time of 19:26 edging out Hallow by .6 of a second.

“I was extremely pleased with how today’s race went.  We got out well, led by Jared who ran another excellent race to finish with another runner-up performance.  We just need to close the gap to Jared as we continue to move in the right direction.  It was also a fun opportunity for me to lace up the spikes again as I toed the line in the rare “Open Race” to finish in 3rd,” stated PSC Head Coach Ian Hankins.

The Catamounts will be back in action next weekend as they again compete locally at the Frostburg State Invitational at the Maplehurst Country Club in Frostburg, MD on Saturday, October 3rd with the women set to go off at 10:30 AM.
