Strong second half lifts Potomac State Men past Lord Fairfax
KEYSER, W.Va. — Jesse Casto, Justin Winebrenner and Trey Ogilvie scored goals in a 14-minute span of the second half to lead Potomac State to a 5-4 victory over Lord Fairfax in college men’s soccer Thursday evening.
Potomac State, after allowing an early goal, scored five of the next six in improving its record to 9-3-1.
John Ciskanik gave Lord Fairfax the early lead with a goal in the 12th minute. Teddy Thompson, on an assist from Steve Holtschneider, tied it three miutes later and Henry Herkes gave the Cats a 2-1 halftime lead.
Colin McKeague tied it in the opening minutes of the second half before Casto, Winebrenner and Ogilvie scored consecutive goals to boost the PSC lead to 5-2. Ricardo Murphy, Garrett Kiddy and Gudiel Guzman had assists.
Lord Fairfax’s Eric Bugin scored on a penalty kick and a direct kick later in the half to complete the scoring.
Potomac State led in shots 14-8 and in corner kicks 8-4. Conor Fungaroli had four saves and Brian Pruett two for Potomac State.
The Catamounts play their final home game Sunday, at 1 p.m., against seventh-ranked Montgomery-Rockville.
