Ranked Rockville ends Catamount Men's Soccer season

Catamounts season ends 10-5-1

COLUMBIA — Georges Beyiha took a pass from Ben Aryeetey and scored at 76:32 of the second half to give Montgomery-Rockville, the No. 9 team in the country, a 1-0 win over Potomac State College in a Region XX semifinal game Thursday at Howard Community College.

The win puts Rockville in Saturday’s championship game, 1 p.m., against Howard, which defeated Prince George’s, 4-1, in the other men’s semifinal.

The loss concludes Potomac State’s season at 10-5-1 and marks the second time the Catamounts have fallen to Rockville in five days, having lost on Sunday, 2-1.

“Our guys played a good game,” said Potomac State head coach Dr. Ray Kiddy. “They really worked hard against the ninth-ranked team in the country. We’ve played them now twice in five days. It’s not the outcome we wanted, but we had a fine season.”

Rockville outshot Potomac State, 13-4, and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Keeper Wilber Diaz had three saves for Rockville, while Conor Fungaroli had eight saves for the Catamounts.

“I’m proud of our five sophomores,” said Kiddy. “They won 18 games in two years, so I’m very proud of those guys.”
