Men’s Soccer: PSC falls to Frederick

FREDERICK, MD — Elmer Diaz and Connor Martin scored unassisted goals in an eight-minute span to help Frederick defeat Potomac State, 2-0, in junior college men’s soccer on Monday.

Locked in a scoreless duel, Diaz broke the ice with a goal at 61:30. Martin’s came at the 69:30 mark.

“It was a hard-fought battle, scoreless at halftime. They got the first goal, and then seven minutes later scored on a quick throw in that caught us off guard, and (Martin) knocked it over the goalkeeper’s head,’’ said Potomac State coach Ray Kiddy. “It was kind of a freak thing.”

Frederick (10-4) held an 8-6 edge in shots and Potomac State (10-5) led 2-1 in corner kicks. Potomac State’s Alex Sproule and Frederick’s Edwin Machuca had four saves apiece.

Potomac State plays again Wednesday at Blue Ridge Community College at 4:30.
